- Big Canoe, Georgia’s premier mountain community is located less than one hour north of Atlanta’s I-285. It occupies nearly 8,000architecturally controlled acres in the lush North Georgia Mountains, with elevations ranging up to 3,200 feet. Nearly a third of the property is set aside for greenbelts and recreation areas. There are more than 90 miles of paved road within the community, and all utilities are underground.
- There are three pristine lakes in Big Canoe. Lake Petit, the largest at 100 acres, and Lake Sconti are reserved for boating (canoes and electric motors only, please) and fishing (stocked with trout and bass), with a marina on Lake Petit. Lake Disharoon (Swim Club)is reserved for swimming, inflatable water-playground use, canoeing, paddle-boating, and paddle-boarding.
- Enjoy 27 holes of challenging and scenic championship golf, with original design by Joe Lee; “Creek” Nine redesigned and updated in 2021 by Bergin Golf Design”; full-time professional staff; pro shop; practice range (enlarged, updated in 2017); two practice putting greens.
- A full range of tennis facilities can be found at Big Canoe. Eight outdoor courts (six hydro-clay and two hard surface), with four lighted for night play; two indoor courts; a full-time professional staff; and a well-equipped pro shop; Six pickle-ball courts were added in 2016-17.
- The Big Canoe Swim Club offers a free-form pool and refreshing Lake Disharoon for swimming and inflatable water-playgrounda white sandy beach, canoes, paddleboats, paddle-boards, a natural rockslide, snack bar, barbecue and picnic areas, and party room for family enjoyment. Wildcat Recreation Area, featuring a second swim club (with water-feature kiddie pool), covered pavilion, and sports fields is located just inside the North Gate.
- Organized youth sports programs have been established in Big Canoe; basketball courts and athletic fields are located in the Wildcat Recreation Area; a large children’s playground is located near the Village.
- The beautiful 20,000 square foot Fitness Center at Big Canoe features state-of-the-art exercise equipment and weight machines, aerobic room, racquet-sport court, a 25-meter indoor lap pool, private massage room, men’s and women’s locker rooms, physical therapy services and juice bar.
- Miles of hiking trails and jeep trails interweave the unspoiled natural beauty of Big Canoe. Of interest along the way are the beautiful array of flora and fauna, deer and other native wildlife, streams and three waterfalls. McDaniel Meadows, a 34-acre wildflower preserve, is the most recent link of trails to be developed.
- A 360-seat multidenominational chapel provides worship services on Sundays (9:00am and 10:30am)and numerous activities during the week. The adjoining Broyles Center offers meeting rooms, a library, crafts room, and a large dining room with full-service kitchen. An outdoor amphitheater provides a beautiful natural setting for concerts and special events.
- There is 24-hour security within gated Big Canoe, with fire (new firehouse in 2018) and ambulance/medical service
- US Mail and inter-community mail delivery is made to the Big Canoe Post Office. 24-hour ATM banking is located there as well.
- Cable TV, Satellite TV, and high-speed Internet access is available to Big Canoe homeowners.
